The Ramblings Of A Shift Worker

I am shift worker. I work 2 12 hour day shifts, followed by two 12 hour night shifts, followed by four days off.

I have been doing this for almost four years now. As a consequence, I no longer think in nine to five, monday
to friday, weekend terms.

And so every now again I have to ask

" What day is it?"
'It's the ninth of November'
'No, not the date, the DAY'

You should see some of the looks I get.

Another consequence Is that I don't have a regular sleeping pattern. And I love sleeping. But nowadays
I have to consider it as a hobby, a past-time. Something that I do in my spare-time.

Ahhh, spare-time, I have a dark distant memory of what that is.

(Yeah, yeah, I know,I know, How can I complain about not having sparetime when I have time to write
this blog? Give me some f*cking poetic licence, please. I mean, after all I AM a sensitive artiste after all.)

Shiftwork And Sleep.

Are You A Fast Or Slow Eater?

I am a fast eater.

I don't feel as though I am a fast eater when I eat- i.e., I don't feel as though I am gulping down my food.
No. I feel as if I am eating at a nice, normal, relaxed rate.

But obviously I'm not. Except in the rarest of cases, I would have finished my plate of food before the
other people I am with have eaten one-eighth of theirs (if that).

I mentioned this to a guy I know, and he said that he was the same-that he thought he was a normal
eater until he compared himself with others.

"Dave, I went to my girlfriend's place for dinner. There was her,her parents, and her brothers. I knew that if
I ate my normal rate, I'd be finishing my second dessert, while they were still eating the first bite of steak.
So I forced myself to eat at their rate. It was Hell."

What about you are you a fast or slow eater?
